In the Blunck lab we are studying the molecular mechanisms underlying the function of ion channels and pore forming toxins. Ion channels are modular membrane proteins with a central ion conducting domain that is regulated by peripheral “gating”domains sensitive to external stimuli such as membrane potential or ligands. We use in particular various fluorescence spectroscopic methods, including voltage-clamp fluorometry and single molecule fluorescence, to study the structure and function of the proteins of interest. One focus lies on new method development.
